Skirmett

The (animated) rebus shows a SKIER while the remaining letters appear in turn [REB17].

The 1988 Hunt was set by myself again theres a likeness to Uncle Paul. My companion is Mamie Smith [SKI1], an early jazz queen with her band The Jazz Hounds. Playing in the background is their song Got To Cool My Doggies Now [SKI2]. The Jazz Hounds had two banjo players, Sam Speed and ELMER Snowden [SKI3] see http://www.redhotjazz.com/msjh.html.

The 1988 Hunt was all about connections, as is the next question. In this case, the connection is the middle names of US Presidents [SKI4]. So we have:

Goldfingers target Fort Knox James KNOX Polk

A ballet dancer Rudolph Nureyev Gerald RUDOLPH Ford

Pipe-smoker of the year 1965 Harold Wilson Ronald WILSON Reagan

Someone between a Marquis and a Viscount Earl James EARL Carter

The Sun Aint Gonna Shine Anymore The Walker Brothers George WALKER Bush

The Great Gatsby F Scott Fitzgerald John FITZGERALD Kennedy

Barts Friend MILHOUSE Richard MILHOUS Nixon

Three Dots S in Morse code Ulysses S Grant (the S in his name doesn't stand for anything)

Superman Clark Kent Herbert CLARK Hoover

White Rabbit Jefferson Airplane William JEFFERSON Clinton

The only president with David as a middle name was Dwight David EISENHOWER [SKI5].

Another theme of the 1988 Hunt was George Bernard Shaw. The rather strange conversation about the two dogs is a reference to a quotation [SKI6]:

A Native American Elder once described his own inner struggles in this manner: "Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil. The other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time." When asked which dog wins, he reflected for a moment and replied, "the one I feed the most."

This is usually attributed to Shaw, although there is never a record of where it appears and it doesnt really sound like him.  The paper shows some writing in the Shavian alphabet [SKI7] Shaws will requested that his money be used to reform English spelling. Details, including this example, can be found on http://www.shawalphabet.com/. It reads THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPED OVER THE LAZY DOG. An anagram of the sixth word is ROVE [SKI8].
